Blog Post #14: Tourism Whistler’s Media Room

Tourism Whistler’s media room features four categories of News & Releases, which includes The Whistler Vibe, What’s New & Newsworthy, Media Releases, and Recent Editorial Coverage.

The Whistler Vibe is a “monthly media newsletter, featuring what's new, what’s happening, and what makes Whistler a top year-round destination.” What is different about this is these newsletters offer a summary of all the different news happening in the city. I really like this feature of the media room because it has all the information a journalist, tourist, or local needs in one place and is kept up to date every month.

What’s New in Whistler seems to be a similar version of their newsletters, but it focuses more on only the new things happening or being offered by the city.

Media Releases are more similar to the traditional news releases you might expect from a media room, except they seem to emphasize upcoming events, as well as advertise specials and deals that different businesses are offering.

Recent Editorial Coverage was my favorite part of the media room. As the title suggests, this section highlights magazines, articles, etc., that have featured the city.

If I were a journalist, I would definitely find the Story Starters very useful. Not only do they provide topics to write about, but they also give you pretty much everything you need to know to write your content- experiences, accommodations, travel, etc.

Out of the media room sites I have visited, Tourism Whistler’s definitely tops the list. They provide all of the resources and information for a journalist to write great content about their city.
