Blog Post #10: Nike Ad

Advertisements- we all know them, but we rarely ever enjoy them, except maybe once a year while watching the Super Bowl. The best advertisements that will actually captivate an audience and help make a brand successful are the ones that don’t feel like ads. Have you ever watched an advertisement without realizing you were watching an advertisement? I definitely have.

In my opinion, Nike is one of the best brands out there that can successfully execute an advertisement that doesn’t feel like an advertisement. If you check out their YouTube channel, there are endless examples of this. The ad that I chose to analyze is a part of Nike’s Never Settle, Never Done campaign. Through this campaign, Nike intends to celebrate and showcase the talent of women’s football, whilst working for changes that will improve the future of the game.

This video currently has 6.3 million views on YouTube as well as mostly positive comments, such as “It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed an advert as much as this!” and “Nice tribute to women’s football 🖤”. I really enjoy this ad, and I think it has been very successful because it has great cinematography, it tells a meaningful and relevant story, and it’s subtle. If you watch the video, the cinematography speaks for itself- it captures your attention. Women’s football is clearly something that people want more appreciation and effort towards, so Nike fills a role with this ad as well. Lastly, it’s subtle, meaning it does not feel like a commercial. This advertisement is not something that most people would feel forced to watch if it came across their TV, they would feel captivated to watch it because of its cinematography and relevance.
