Blog Post #12: Podcasts

I am not usually an avid podcast listener, although I was excited to get our of my comfort zone for this blog post. Today I will be discussing The Psychology of your 20's podcast- episode 83: The Psychology of 'lucky girl syndrome'.

Like I said, I don't often listen to podcasts, so my first step in writing about one was to browse Spotify for one that would be appealing to me. The Psychology of your 20's podcast has 83 episodes, with new episodes being released every Friday. This podcast was most appealing to me because the cover image is simple, neutral, and straightforward, and I was hoping the podcast itself would reflect this. I also was intrigued by both the title of the Podcast and the title of the episode. As a 20-something year old myself, I thought I might be able to relate to whatever was being discussed or the person discussing it. "Lucky girl syndrome', as mentioned in the title of the episode, is a term I had heard of on TikTok before, so this made me even more interested.

I was surprised as to how much I enjoyed this podcast episode. The host, Jemma Sbeg, discussed the origins of 'lucky girl syndrome', it's implications in young people's lives, and how the phenomenon is largely affected by privilege. Since The Psychology of your 20's is hosted by only one person, it makes the most sense for this show to be a podcast rather than any other conventional media methods. My understanding is that it was on the shorter end of most podcast lengths, at 35 minutes, but that was the perfect amount of time for me personally. I would definitely recommend checking out this podcast series if you are looking for something new to listen to!
